DESCRIPTION:Over 12 million children in the US live in poverty. Multiple stressors such as food insecurity\, inadequate housing\, and limited educational resources compound the impact of poverty on many families. Further compounding poverty’s reach are social\, health\, and economic issues that often result from structural factors. This course examines common attitudes surrounding poverty\, how these attitudes can be detrimental to families who are already faced with barriers\, and encourages each attendee to move beyond empathy to utilize evidence-based strategies with individuals and families.

SUMMARY:Supporting People with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders for Community Health Workers
DESCRIPTION:Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) are a range of mental health conditions that can occur during and after pregnancy. These conditions include postpartum depression\, anxiety disorders\, and others\, and are distinct from the common “baby blues.” The most supportive treatments identify relevant modifiable risk factors for each individual\, including risk factors such as sleep disruption\, birth trauma\, hormonal fluctuations\, financial stressors\, social isolation\, and more. Without support or treatment\, PMADs have lasting effects on the parent and child. Join us for this 1.5 hour course focusing on the prevalence of PMADs\, root causes\, effective support strategies and so much more!
